On May 27, 1993
J. Dawson Stelfox
became the first Irish man to reach the summit of Mount Everest. He led the
expedition up the North East Ridge. Closer to home, Dawson also made a first
ascent on the Devils Alternative, a route up Slieve Beg. Slieve Beg is the 297th
highest summit in Ireland.
Dawson is the Chairman of the
Mountaineering Council of Ireland. He is also the Director of the Association
for Adventure Sports. Dawson works as an Architect when he is not climbing, and
was a recipient of the 2004 Civic Trust Awards.
