1977-87: extensive climbing in New Zealand Southern Alps

1982: Classic hard climbs in the French Alps: Freney Pillar on Mont Blanc (4807m); Walker Spur on Grand Jorasses (4208m). First free ascent of the SW Pillar on Changabang (6864m)

1983: solo ascent of North Face of Matterhorn (4478m); solo speed record ascent of North Face of Piz Badile (3370m),

1984: attempt on West Ridge of Everest (8848m),

1985: winter traverse of Mont Maudit , Mont Blanc du tacul and Mont Blanc; new route attempt on SW pillar of Shivling (6505m) . One day ascent of Kedarnath Dome

1986: new route on Shivling South West Pillar ( unrepeated); solo speed record of Frontier Ridge on Mont Blanc.

1987: new multi-peak solo traverse of Kerdanath Group, (Dome 6850m, Peak 7015m, Kirti Bamak 6500m), attempt on South Pillar of Everest

1988: ascent of Everest from south

1989: one day ascent of Aconcagua (6960m),

1990: Attempt on south face of Aconcagua; ascent of Mt. Elbrus (5633m)(Russia)

1991-92: short trips into Australian desert, including two-week trek surviving on bush food alone

1993: Attempt on north ridge of Everest

1994: sea-kayaking, Daintree River to Cape York - 62 days, 900km

1995: Attempt on north ridge of Everest

1996: Walk to Nowhere – solo waterless desert trek - 34 days, 620 km

1997: solo sea kayaking, Queensland coast - 52 days , 800 kms

1998-99: IceTrek South Pole Expedition - 84 days, 1425km

1996-99: First traverses on foot of largest lakes (salt) in Australia ( Lake Eyre; Lake Frome: Lake Gairdner)

2000: Attempt to cross Australia unassisted, aborted after gear failure

2001: first ever unassisted crossing of Australia . 128 days from Port Augusta to Burketown.

2002: reached the North Pole
