The 35th woman to Summit Everest was Lene Gammelgaard. Lene Lives in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she lived during her university years, receiving a degree in law from Copenhagen University. She has also been accepted as a PhD researcher from University of Edinburgh, in a study of Outdoor Management.

She currently operates her own consulting business, Lene Gammelgaard Consult, ApS. (development of human resources using wilderness as the learning lab.) She also works as a professional lecturer and author. She is often published in leading Danish and German newspapers and magazines. She works to raise funds for the Lapka Sherpa Educational Fund, which pays for education for daughters of deceased Sherpa mountaineers in Nepal.

Lene was the first Danish and Scandinavian woman to summit Everest via the South-East Ridge Route route on May 10, 1996, a member of Scott Fischer's Sagamartha Environmental Expedition. One of her books, published  in English, CLIMBING HIGH- A WOMAN'S ACCOUNT FROM EVEREST was printed in 1998, describing her experience during the devastating 1996 storm, which took the lives of Scott Fischer and Rob Hall.
